Knowing Eunice

What can I say about Eunice? I think I was a sophomore in high school when I first met her... I remember coming to the Stark home with Robin in high school and meeting Eunice and Roger (Robin's pop) for the first time. Honestly I think I was a little frightened of Eunice upon that first meeting. Eunice reminded me a bit of Mz. Shelton (my English teacher at Saratoga High). I remember Eunice's hair being tied up in a bun; she was wearing the clean straight clothes and spoke to me using articulate and proper English - I thought for sure that if we misbehaved we would get our knuckles smacked with a ruler, OUCH! After a while I started to realize that this woman, who I learned was, btw, the big wig for the league of women voters in Saratoga, was not only smart, cool and health conscious but was also starting to seem pretty cool. She gave us an amazing amount of freedom and always seemed to trust us (maybe sometimes not such a good idea). I learned that this seemingly proper mom was really a cool lady in disguise that ate Grape Nuts and dug on some shows like Monty Python that most Ps did not. She promoted us in the days of "Dorothy Dodge" (great times) and I grew to know her as the totally "cool mom" of the hood. I feel silly thinking that I thought of Eunice as the strict English teacher when I first met her, but she WAS really really smart! I thought it was great when Eunice and Rodger decided to retire to San Diego and that I had the opportunity to enjoy quite a few visits with Robin over the years. Eunice always had something clever to say and always had her wits about her. The last visit when we had lunch at the RB Inn I remember thinking how sharp and bright Eunice still was! She always was such an amazing woman - especially once you got you got to know her! Eunice, you were one cool chica and you raised two wonderful daughters! You were my best friend's cool mama and she loved you mucho - you were loved and will be missed dearly. I know you will keep a close eye on the Robin and Karen from above but have no worries - you did a fantastic job with them (but you are such a together lady I know I don't really need to say that). Thank you Eunice! Much love XO to you and my BFF (hope you don't mind the slang) ;) Sharon
